NATHAN: You jumped … Peter. Twenty-five feet to a fire escape. I climbed up and carried you down. That’s what happened. The rest is just crazy talk. You understand?

コギャル　－

I’m switching to english because these things require a detailed explanation. コギャル is a fashion that is something like the Paris Hiltons of America. Girls buy expensive clothes and accessories to show their incomes (or their parents income). Kogals are known for wearing platform boots, a miniskirt, copious amounts of makeup, hair coloring (usually blond), artificial suntans, and designer accessories. If in school uniform, the look typically includes skirts pinned very high and loose socks (large baggy socks that go up to the knee). This fashion emerged in the 1990s, and things are moving toward a more conservative styles lately.

ガングロ　－

This style consists of very bleached hair, very tan skin, black and white eyeliner, and fake eyelashes. These girls wear platform shoes, mini skirts, flower pins, and lots of jewelry. The popularity of this trend peaked around 2000.

ろりた　ー

This has three subcatagories: Classic, gothic, and sweet. Classic is more mature looking while sweet is much more childish looking. Gothic (ゴスロリ） is an interesting variation because it is much darker、while still emphasizing cuteness. Gothic Lolita girls wear Victorian-style girl’s clothing and often aim to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls. Gothic Lolita style is usually a combination of black and white, often black with white lace and typically decorated with ribbons and lace trims. Skirts are knee length and may have a crinoline or petticoat to add volume. Shoes or boots with high heels – though not usually stiletto heels – such as Mary Janes, complete the look. Frilly, ruffled or lace-trimmed Victorian blouses are also popular especially with “EGL” types, who may also favor long skirts and jackets rather than the overtly “childish” designs of typical gothloli’s. Apart from the occasional shortness of skirts, designs are usually modest, sometimes with long lace-capped sleeves.

This is some of the more extreme fashion trends in Japan. There are plenty of other more practical trends that I couldn’t find any actual information on, but that I know exist because I have seen what Japanese exchange students here wear. The regular fashions are more what I’m into. If anyone has any information about this, I would like to know. Some of this also may be outdated because it’s hard to keep up with current trends in another country.

I got that chart from tae kim’s Japanese grammar guide. I changed some of the kanji to hiragana so that it was easier to understand. It shows how you would change a verb into the humble or honorific form. You would here this a lot from servers or cashiers, so it’s good to be able to understand it.　You would conjugate those according to u verb and ru verb rules.
